Home Daddy

Don’t Always Believe What You Read and Hear…Child Eating Habits

A Stay at Home Dad can promote healthy child eating habits too!

I recently read an article about Stay at Home Dads and how children with working moms are at greater risk of obesity even if the father is a Stay at Home Dad. I wasn’t sure how to react, but in my opinion, I totally disagree. I’m not saying every house is like mine, but in this instance, I definitely am against what the article says.  We have the ability to promote proper child eating habits as well.

The article says that Stay at Home Dads “failed to realize the importance of child eating habits.” This is far from the truth in my case. Do we take the little princess out to eat at different places? Absolutely. But she eats the right things when we do go out. We hardly ever hit up the McDonalds’ of the world, and when we have the choice of either fries or fruit, we always go the fruit route. It is something we take to heart to be honest. We understand that obesity is something we can’t ignore, and that’s one reason we make an effort to prepare the proper foods for our daughter.

Another thing that stands out to me in this article is that the woman who wrote the article quotes a gentleman that says they are not trying to make out that “men are scum.” Well, the whole basis of the article pretty much says that exactly. I understand that a female wrote the story and there are supposed facts and research about this, but I find it hard to believe this is a blanket statement. I take offense to that because it is reverse sexism in my opinion. I am at Stay at Home Dad and I take pride in it. I am not saying I’m perfect by any means, but I make sure to put my little princess and her well being at the forefront of everything I do in life, day by day.

I pray for everyone that has an obese child and hope that they can get help, and let’s hope that is from the parents. It is a major problem facing children worldwide and something that needs to be addressed, not just by Stay at Home Dads. I just don’t think it is fair to assume or say that all Stay at Home Dads are negligent to making sure their kids eat proper and healthy.  That’s my two cents, take it for what it is worth.
